Councils using the Sustainable Living Guide to engage their Communities

Councils engaging their CommunitiesAs the grass roots government layer, many Councils are directly engaging with, supporting and providing leadership to their communities on the issues of climate change, drought and environmental decline.

The Need - Councils require a cost effective, local and community focused online information service that encourages and facilitates behaviour change that reduces their constituents’ impact on the environment (i.e. helps them reduce their greenhouse gas emissions, water use, etc...).

The Solution - The Sustainable Living Guide displayed as a seamless part of the Council internet site enables the Council to present a professionally researched, written & edited (and updated) collection of actions (with images, links and categories) their constituents can engage to reduce their impact on the environment.

The results - Local Government constituents have a localised guide of actions they can take to fight Climate Change, that are supported by their local branch of Government. The Council is facilitating the community behaviour change required to start to address environmental issues and has opened communication with their concerned citizens.

Key Benefits - some of the specific benefits that the Sustainable Living Guide offers to Councils are

  • The Sustainable Living Guide increases the communication capability of otherwise overstretched environment departments with minimal additional staff involvement.
  • The Natural Strategies Group works with Council Environment Staff to integrate guide with existing council initiatives and create a communications plan.
  • The Natural Strategies Group will continually explore and evolve the Sustainable Living Guide based on the feedback from our various clients and discussions.

Wyndham City Council

“The Online Sustainable Living Guide is a comprehensive guide which provides a wealth of information on a broad range of environmental topics for the community. It’s a positive and encouraging guide that is very well laid out and easy to navigate. The cross referencing between different topics is logical and convenient. Being able to tailor the guide to Wyndham adds a lot of value to it.It’s a fantastic tool for the community that Council is proud to incorporate into its website.”
